Pearl Harbor

On Sunday morning of December 7th 1941, disaster struck Pearl Harbor located in Hawaii. Everybody located in Pearl Harbor was just waking up. Suddenly the sound of bombs and distant cries flooded the skies. Japan had just attacked Pearl Harbor.

Japan used warplanes to fire at the Americans. Boats and ships were getting bombed and some even sunk into the harbor.  People that were trapped in the ships yelled for help… but nobody could save them, if they did they would allow more water to enter into the sunken ship. Many residents of Pearl Harbor were trying to find loved ones and friends. About 2,400 Americans died from this history changing event. The bombs also damaged and or sank 19 American ships and 200 American planes.

What happened? The following day the U.S declared war on Japan and Japan’s Europian Allies. President  Rooosevelt also declared that December 7th 1941 was “A day which will live in infamy.”  Three days after U.S declared war on Japan, Germany and Italy declared war on the U.S.
